I created the above Tutorial for the MRGC staff. The tutorial shows a the lay person how edit the KML / KMZ trail layers using Google Earth.
GMI - Deriving China's Provinces and Prefectures from County Polygons
Project Date: March 2011
Goals:
- Update GMI map of China with current Prefecture and Province Boundaries by dissolving county polygons into prefectures and then dissolving the prefecture polygons into provinces.
Data Source:
- GMI - Chinese 3rd Level Administrative border shapefile
Software and Tools used:
Wikipedia and Statoids
- Ensure the accuracy of the 3rd level administrative border shapefile attributes (e.g. county name, county capitol, prefecture name, prefecture capitol, province name, province capitol, etc) by double checking Statoids and Wikipedia
- Dissolve Tool - Dissolved county polygons into prefecture polygons based on prefecture ID attribute in the county polygon shapefile. Dissolved prefecture polygons into province polygons bassed on province ID attribute in the prefecture polygon shapefile.
- Edit Toolbar - Used Edit sesssions to correct topology errors in dissolved polygons and to correct attribute information when neccessary
Final Project - Urban Planning 792 - Sheboygan County Fishing Waters
Project Date: May 2010
Goals:
- Determine and illustrate the location of Sheboygan County streams, rivers, and lakes.
- Determine where these streams and rivers have public access.
- Determine the amount of fish stocked in these streams, rivers, and lakes.
- Determine the kinds of fish stocked in these streams, rivers and lakes.
Data Sources:
- United States Geological Survey - Fishing Stocking Information
- Sheboygan County - Parcel Map and Road Network of Sheboygan County
- Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources - Hydrologic Features
Software and tools used to complete the project:
- Sketch Tool
- Model Builder
- Select By Location
- Identified and extracted fishing waters from the Hydrology Database
- SQL
